The City of LA has established a temporary Emergency Renters Relief Program to help individuals facing rent increases in response to a new state law that prohibits rent gouging but doesn't go into effect until January 2020.
The citywide program, which provides rent subsidies, will be in effect from now until December 31, 2019. In order to be eligible, individuals must reside in a rental property in Los Angeles, the rental unit must be built prior to January 1, 2005 and the household income needs to be below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
To schedule an in-person appointment in District 9, contact All Peoples Community Center at (213) 747-6357. You may also contact HCIDLA’s hotline at (866) 557-RENT (7368) or the Housing Rights Center (HRC) at (800) 477-5977. More details below.
